Opportunity Changed Trigger Now Supports Event Based Field Change Operators
What’s New: “Opportunity Changed” Trigger Is Now Event-Based
The Opportunity Changed trigger in SMBcrm workflows now supports event-based operators, which means you can trigger automation only when a specific opportunity field actually changes.
Previously, this trigger behaved more like a filter. If an opportunity matched your selected field value, the workflow could fire on any update to that opportunity even if the field you cared about didn’t change.
With this update, you can use Has Changed and Has Changed To to make workflow triggers more precise and reduce unnecessary runs.
New Operators for Standard Opportunity Fields
You can now apply Has Changed and Has Changed To to standard opportunity fields to trigger workflows based on real field changes.

New Operators for Custom Fields
The same event-based operators are also available for custom opportunity fields, giving you more control when your pipeline logic relies on custom data.

Why This Matters for Your Automations
This change helps prevent workflows from firing on unrelated updates.
For example, before this update, a trigger like Assigned To = John could fire anytime an opportunity assigned to John was updated, even if the update was just a note, tag change, or value edit.
Now you can use Assigned To Has Changed To John to trigger the workflow only when the opportunity is newly assigned to John, ignoring unrelated edits. The result is cleaner automation, fewer unintended actions, and more reliable reporting.
How to Use It
To use the updated behavior:
- Go to your workflow and add or edit an Opportunity Changed trigger
- Select the opportunity field you want to watch (standard or custom)
- Choose one of the new operators: Has Changed
- Has Changed To
Compatibility Note
Existing workflows keep their current behavior and default to the prior Equals logic, so nothing breaks when this update rolls out.
